I am very sceptical that Bombardier’s 6500 business jet could be adapted to offer ALL of the functionality of the Boeing P8-A Poseidon. Is this an apples to oranges comparison?
The Poseidon is based on the 737-800 which can carry 160-190 passengers. The Bombardier 6500 can carry 17 passengers.
However, the upgrades required to 737-800 indicate that the full capabilities require much more space and power than would be available from a small business jet. The capacity of the electrical generators had to be doubled, the fuselage strengthened, internal weapons bay created for torpedoes and missiles, and in-flight refuelling added.
There would an extremely high risk to timely delivery if the government selected a vendor who does not even have a completed and tested design yet. Boeing has a mature design and active production lines with more than 150 P8’s produced so far.
Commonality with our allies would allow Canadian Air Force personnel to be seconded to the USAF or RAF in o
There was a possibility that the sub dumped weights and was floating on the surface, but had no communications. Therefore the search initially had to include the surface.
