This aircraft is a G21A Goose, not a Widgeon! I know as this was the first aircraft that I ever flew way back in 1952. My father also operated both aircraft types in his airline, Midet Airlines.

Perhaps it is "the most advanced [carrier-based] command and control platform in the world", but from a purely AEW&C perspective I think the Boeing 737 AEW&C has assumed that mantle now. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boeing_737_AEW%26C

Air to air work is a lot more difficult than most give it credit for.

The Commonwealth Boomerang (also known as the Commonwealth Aircraft Corporation - or "CAC" - Boomerang) was of completely Australian indigenous design. Based on the CAC Wirraway, which in turn was spawned from the American NA-16 trainer aircraft produced by North American, the Boomerang was developed in direct response to the impending Japanese invasion of the Australian homeland. As with other facets of Australian war-production, aviation design was hardly given much attention prior to the war. However, with the consistent advancements made by Imperial Japan throughout Asia and in the Pacific, Australian soil was now ripe for the taking. It would seem that this British Commonwealth territory might be no more.

The Boomerang was of a utilitarian and highly conventional design, appearing much in line with those early stout fuselage monoplanes featured in the latter half of the 1930's. Wings - which were taken directly from the Wirraway design - were forward and low-mounted on the fuselage which, in turn, was of an all-new design. Additionally, the empennage and the retractable landing gear system were also of the preceding design's creation which essentially made the Boomerang something of a conversion model to her origins. The pilot sat behind the powerplant compartment and was situated under a glazed canopy. Armament was excellent and consisted of 2 x 20mm cannons in the wings and an array of 4 x 7.7mm machine guns in the wings.

The Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-17 (Russian: Микоян и Гуревич МиГ-17; NATO reporting name: Fresco)[1] is a high-subsonic fighter aircraft produced in the USSR from 1952 and operated by numerous air forces in many variants. It is an advanced development of the very similar appearing MiG-15 of the Korean War. The MiG-17 was license-built in China as the Shenyang J-5 and Poland as the PZL-Mielec Lim-6.

MiG-17s first saw combat in 1958 in the Second Taiwan Strait Crisis and later proved to be an effective threat against more modern supersonic fighters of the United States in the Vietnam War. It was also briefly known as the Type 38 by U.S. Air Force designation prior to the development of NATO codes.

VAW-126 is one of five Airborne Command & Control Squadrons based in Norfolk, VA. Equipped with five E-2D Advanced Hawkeye aircraft, the squadron's primary mission is airborne early warning and command and control in support of joint warfare commanders. VAW-126 conducts diverse operations such as air intercept control, strike control, surface search and coordination, search and rescue coordination, and tactical command and control. The E-2D Advanced Hawkeye (AHE) is the newest variant of the E-2 aircraft platform. It features a state-of-the-art radar with a two-generation leap in capability and upgraded aircraft systems that will improve supportability and increase readiness.

Three E-2Ds are scheduled to be delivered by 2028 and will replace the three existing E-2C Hawkeyes of the French Navy, Marine Nationale.

The E-2D AHE, produced by Northrop Grumman, represents a two-generation leap in technology compared to its predecessor, the E-2C Hawkeye. The aircraft features a state-of-the-art radar and upgraded aircraft systems that improve supportability and increase readiness. The centerpiece of the E-2D AHE is the APY-9 radar system, designed specifically to provide enhanced surveillance detection and tracking capability against advanced threat aircraft and cruise missile systems in the overland, littoral, and open ocean environments. With the addition of aerial refueling capabilities, the E-2D remains the most advanced command and control platform in the world.

A few years ago, I was so surprised during my Trikke ride on the bike path here in Sioux Falls, when I looked up and saw these Thunderbirds fly by overhead in formation. No idea where they had come from or where they were going...they were very easily visible as being the Thunderbirds, being not all that high.

They are here in Sioux Falls this weekend. I get a bit of a free show, with my apt. being in their flight path for turning around to come and go during their performance over the airport. Boy, oh boy, are they loud...can feel them, not just hear them, etc.

Hard to believe that the DC-3 made its maiden flight on December 17, 1935. They remained in production until 1946. Truly a legendary aircraft.

The nose is like the EC-47D that the Air Force Communications Service used at Randolph AFB in 1962-63.

Written on 2023年 07月 28日 by Harold Boerstler

The C-47 differed from the civilian DC-3 in numerous modifications, including being fitted with a cargo door, hoist attachment, and strengthened floor, along with a shortened tail cone for glider-towing shackles, and an astrodome in the cabin roof.

Ergo, it is NOT a DC-3 but sure looks like it at first glance.
